اعتبر البطريرك الماروني الكاردينال مار بشارة بطرس الراعي أن ” لبنان لا يستطيع أن يكمل طريقه من دون مصالحة ومصارحة، ونصلي أن تتواصل المصالحة – المصارحة على المستوى السياسي، ونطلب من الله أن يمكن الجميع من القيام بها بشجاعة”. وقال في عظته خلال ترؤسه قداس عيد سيدة الخلاص في باحة مطرانية بيت الدين في الشوف: “إنها ذبيحة شكر لله على هذا اليوم الجميل، الذي عشتنا فيه جمال المصالحة التي تمت في الجبل في العام 2001”. ورأى أن “لبنان لا يستطيع أن يكمل طريقه من دون مصالحة ومصارحة، ونصلي أن تتواصل المصالحة – المصارحة على المستوى السياسي، ونطلب من الله أن يمكن الجميع من القيام بها بشجاعة”. وقال: “البداية كانت في شاناي مع شيخ عقل طائفة الموحدين الدروز سامي أبي المنى، وكانت الغاية تجديد روابط المحبة والصداقة والتعاون في خدمتنا معا على المستوى الروحي. بعدها كانت لنا وقفة في الباروك، تحية لشعبنا هناك، ووقفة في هذا الكرسي”. وتابع: ثم زرنا بعقلين، حيث تكلمنا أبي المنى وأنا عن ثمار المصالحة التاريخية التي أجراها البطريرك الماروني الراحل مار نصرالله بطرس صفير والنائب السابق وليد جنبلاط، لنؤكد أننا ملتزمون بمواصلة هذه المصالحة التاريخية، لأن عليها ترتكز وحدة شعبنا ووحدة سياسيينا في مسيرة الوطن”.

وأكد وليد جنبلاط أن “المصالحة تكرست، رغم أصوات النشاز من هنا وهناك، والتي تصر على نبش القبور وتنسى صفحات العيش المشترك المجيدة للجبل والوطن”، وقال: “ليس هناك أغبى أو أسخف، لكن أخطر ممن ينادون بالفراغ، ولا يسهّلون موضوع الانتخابات الرئاسية”. وتوجه خلال استقباله البطريرك الراعي والشيخ أبي المنى، في المختارة، للحضور بالقول: “صاحب الغبطة، اسمح لي ببعض الملاحظات من مراقب بعيد، أولا نثمن عاليا كلّ الجهود المحلية والعربية والدولية التي تقومون بها من أجل حل معضلة الرئاسة. كما نحيي عاليا تأييدكم للحوار، رغم العقبات المتعددة”. أضاف: “في أدبياتنا، كل الشهداء هم شهداء الوطن من دون تمييز من أي جهة كانت، وفي ما نسمعه من نظريات ليس هناك أغبى أو أسخف، لكن أخطر ممن ينادون بالفراغ، ولا يسهلون موضوع الانتخابات الرئاسية”. وتابع: “في نسخة أخرى من النظريات حول ما يسمى مواصفات الرئيس، كأن المطلوب أن يتعلم المجلس النيابي دروسا في النحت أو الخياطة، فعندما تريد الدول حل الأمور تحلها، وتذكروا مجلس الإدارة أيام المتصرفية، وتذكروا الاستقلال كما سنة 1985، والطائف وغيرها من المحطات، فكفى وضع عراقيل لتغييب الانتخابات”. وأردف: “يأتينا وزير الخارجية الإيراني حسن أمير عبد اللهيان، بالتزامن مع زيارة رجل “الترسيم” آموس هوكشتاين، وكلاهما صرحا بتأييدهما إنجاز الانتخابات الرئاسية، ممتاز، كيف؟ فهل يمكن ترسيم حقل بعبدا يا سيد هوكشتاين؟ وهل يمكن تسهيل الانتخابات يا سيد عبد اللهيان؟ وتحديد الصندوق السيادي الجديد مع الدول المعنية والقادة المحليين، سؤال مجددا من مراقب بعيد”.وختم جنبلاط: “من جديد، نثمن جهودكم عاليا، ونحن على استعداد لأي مساعدة في مهمة الرئاسة الصعبة، ولكن ليست المستحيلة”.

رأى البطريرك الماروني الكاردينال مار بشاره بطرس الراعي خلال زيارة الى بلدة شانيه، ولقائه شيخ العقل لطائفة الموحدين الدروز سامي أبي المنى في دارته أن لبنان دولة التلاقي والحوار، قائلا: “هذا ما يُسمى دور لبنان الحيادي ولا يمكن ان يكون لبنان ارض التنوع والحوار من دون الحياد”. واضاف: “علينا أن نبني على المصالحة التي قام بها البطريرك صفير وجنبلاط”، وأعرب عن فرحته وشكره لهذا اليوم ومن خلال هذه الزيارة عبّر الراعي عن روابط المحبّة والصّداقة التي تجمعنا خصوصاً وأن لبنان بحاجة الى بناء الوحدة الداخلية.بدوره، توجه ابو المنى للراعي قائلا: “حضوركم اليوم في الجبل هو رسالة محبّة وأخوّة والعيش معاً والمصالحة وتعبّر عن حقيقة الجبل الواحد والموحد”.

رأى شيخ عقل طائفة الموحدين الدروز سامي أبي المنى من بعقلين أن بكركي وزعامة الجبل حوّلت هذا الجبل من ساحة حقد وخصام الى واحة محبّة وسلام، مشيرا الى أن مصالحة الجبل لم تكن ورقة تفاهم موقعة بين زعيم وبطريرك بل كانت عهد الحكماء والأبطال. وسأل: “لماذا لا نتّحد لتعزيز الأمل بالمستقبل في ظلّ انهيار الدولة؟ ألا يستوجب الأمر مصالحة من نوع آخر؟ مصالحة على شكل مبادرات عمليّة لبناء المؤسسات وإقامة المشاريع المنتجة ألا يجدر بنا أن نضع خطة استراتيجيّة للنهوض والاعتماد على أنفسنا؟” واضاف: “الا يستحسن ان يلتقي اصحاب الوثائق على طاولة حوار وتفاهم لانتاج الحلول الناجعة بدل المراوحة وانتظار الخارج؟ الحوار سبيل وليس غاية فلماذا لا ندعو اليه لاختراق جدران التعطيل سعيا الى جمال التسوية لا قفزا فوق الدستور”. بدوره، قال البطريرك الراعي من بعقلين: “الشعب اللبناني مؤمن ألا خلاص للبنان إلا بوحدته والوحدة في التنوّع فنحن معاً نشخّص مشكلتنا ونبحث عن العلاج لمَا نُعانيه وهذا ما نصبو إليه مع شيخ العقل ولن نتراجع عن هذا العمل لأنّه واجبٌ وطنيّ”.واضاف: ” كلمة مصالحة تتطلّب أعمالاً ومبادرات وأؤكّد أنّ صحّة لبنان من صحّة الجبل والكنيسة مستعدة للتعاون مع المواطنين لتحقيق امكانيات العيش”.

The rapprochement between Bkerke and Moukhtara increased in 2000 after the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon and after the appeal of the patriarchs in September of the same year.While the late Patriarch Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir openly raised his voice demanding the withdrawal of the Syrian army, Walid Jumblatt demanded the redeployment of the Syrians to the Bekaa as stipulated in the Taif Agreement. He faced a campaign of attack by some of Syria’s allies in Lebanon. The late Samir Frangieh, known as the “Red Beik,” for decades, was a friend of the head of the Progressive Socialist Party and, at the same time, close to Patriarch Sfeir. He and his friend Fares Souaid took on the task of conveying messages between Moukhtara and the Maronite Patriarchate. The weekend of the first week of August 2001 was chosen as the date for reconciliation due to its symbolism, as the people of Al Jabal- Christians and Druze – celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Hill in Deir Al-Qamar.
Patriarch Sfeir went to Al Jabal, where he met its Christian residents in popular gatherings in Christian villages, while Jumblatt mobilized the MPs of the Democratic Gathering and senior Druze leaders in Moukhtara to receive Sfeir with the best reception, consecrate the reconciliation of the Al Jabal residents, and enhance the return of Christians to the villages. President Emile Lahoud, upon his arrival at the Lady of the Hill Church to participate in the Patriarch’s Mass, was met with slogans condemning his presence and criticizing Syrian tutelage over Lebanon. Opponents of Syria from the Free Patriotic Movement, the Lebanese Forces, the Kataeb, and Al-Ahrar gathered at the bend of Kahaleh at the end of the Patriarch’s tour, which lasted for two days. They raised partisan flags for the first time in over a decade.They chanted against Syria and demanded its withdrawal from Lebanon, a move that disturbed Damascus and the Lebanese security apparatus, which feared the growing influence of Christians and the coordination between Bkerke and Moukhtara. The response came two days later, on August 7, with the arrest of hundreds of supporters of Christian parties and their imprisonment. The reconciliation ended a historical conflict, consolidated the calm atmosphere, strengthened brotherhood among Al Jabal’s residents, and paved the way for cooperation utilized in the “Independence Uprising,” contributing to the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. Al Jabal’s reconciliation has become a founding document and a shining era in the history of Lebanon and its Mountain.
