Solidarity Stand with Father Najib Al-Amil at Mar Charbel Church/Mississauga – Canada
Colonel Charbel Barakat/November 02, 2026
In a solidarity stand with the people in the border villages, who for years have suffered the effects of others’ wars on Lebanese soil, the absence of the state, and attempts to drag the country into an armed confrontation that does not serve the southerners, the Lebanese community in Mississauga – Canada gathered spontaneously in front of Mar Charbel Church after Sunday Mass on November 01, 2026.
A direct contact was made via social media with Father Najib Al-Amil in the steadfast border town of Rmeish, as an expression of the diaspora’s support for the people in the border villages, and support for the priest who stood with the people there on Lebanon’s border, helping carry their concerns and preventing them from fearing for their fate or fleeing and leaving their homes during the war that struck the area. He has shown awareness, foresight, and dedication for the sake of the parish. He is an example set by the late parish priest of Qlaia, Father Pierre Al-Rai, who sacrificed his life to help his parishioners and accompany ambulance teams to transport the wounded among them during the events, and was martyred on the land of the town he shepherded, as a living example of steadfastness.
After listening to the Canadian and Lebanese national anthems, Father Najib was introduced. He thanked those present for their support and their noble stand expressing solidarity with the steadfast people, despite all difficulties and obstacles, in southern Lebanon, especially in the absence of the state, its apparatus and its forces — indeed in the absence of any manifestation of it and its ability to reassure citizens that there is someone who cares for their existence and their future. Hence the role of Father Najib, who showed foresight and stood at the forefront of the parish carrying the banner of steadfastness and attachment to the land and protecting it from any aggressor, whether foreign or close. He led that process with full support from His Holiness the Pope, who sent the Papal Nuncio himself, and over months and in humanitarian convoys that carried some of the needs of the steadfast people, but carried much more than that; because they carried with them the spirit of hope and the decision to stay despite all circumstances. The role of Father Najib Al-Amil and the rest of the priests who led that wonderful steadfastness, and who led the parish defending it and clinging to the symbolic remnants of the Lebanese state, was essential. But this state, with some of those who represent it, did not understand the meanings of staying and clinging to the land, just as it did when the Israelis withdrew in 2000, where it failed and did not hasten to fill the vacuum, but handed over the land and what is on it to the agents of the mullahs’ regime in Tehran, who did nothing but drag wars time after time and displace the population and destroy villages.
Today, after staying has become a fait accompli and steadfastness is imposed on everyone, and where countries through talks are trying to find common ground between Lebanon and Israel to preserve the Lebanese identity of the land because of those who remained steadfast, some short-sighted employees in the loitering administration take the initiative to use their positions and threaten those whom the state should thank, and who deserve medals of appreciation to be pinned on their chests. They summon Father Najib for investigation about his attempt to explain matters to those who know nothing about the conditions of the people in those villages.
We do not demand violating the laws nor do we claim the right to bypass them, as those who took control of the state and killed its people and displaced them from their homes did and still do, and still work to cause further demolition of the homeland in the rest of the regions so that all of them equally bear the damage, but we try to make those who claim to enforce the laws understand that summoning Father Najib to appear before the judge in Sidon is an assault on the steadfast who still raise the flag of Lebanon despite the foreign armies that control the land. The survival of Father Najib and his likes is the symbol of Lebanon’s survival and its rights to the land, and not the claim to defend them by correspondence.
The dignity of Father Najib represents national dignity, and respecting him represents the prestige of the state. Neither victimizing people like him nor targeting the steadfast people on the border, who drew it by clinging to it, is what keeps this state its right, but rather respecting them and helping them overcome difficult circumstances is what serves the homeland and gives its children the motivation to continue.
