الفصل الثاني عشر: أبدية الدولة اليهودية
سيداتي وسادتي، قصة شعبي، الشعب اليهودي، تعود إلى أكثر من 3000 عام. نحن نتحدث نفس اللغة. نتحدث نفس اللغة اليوم التي تحدثنا بها حينها. نعيش في نفس الأرض التي عاش فيها أجدادنا حينها. داود، سليمان، إشعياء، إرميا. هذه أرضنا، أرض إسرائيل. أنبياؤنا، هدفنا، وشعبنا فريد في التاريخ. قيمنا ألهمت البشرية لآلاف السنين. الإيمان بإله واحد، قدسية الحياة، سيادة القانون، سعينا الأبدي من أجل السلام، سعينا الأبدي من أجل العدالة.هذه القيم المقدسة هي التي دفعتنا عبر العصور. هذه القيم هي التي ساعدتنا على التغلب على احتمالات التاريخ. الكاتب الأمريكي العظيم مارك توين قالها بأفضل شكل قبل 125 عاماً. قالها قبل وقت طويل من ولادة الدولة اليهودية الحديثة. قبل وقت طويل من الانتصارات العظيمة لجنود إسرائيل. إليكم ما قاله.
لقد خاض اليهودي قتالاً رائعاً في هذا العالم في جميع العصور وقد فعل ذلك ويداه مقيدتان خلف ظهره. المصري والبابلي والفارسي نهضوا، ملأوا الكوكب بالضجيج والبهاء، ثم تلاشوا إلى مادة الأحلام ومضوا. شعوب أخرى ظهرت وحملت شعلة نورها عالياً لفترة، لكنها احترقت، وهم يجلسون في الشفق. اليهودي رآهم جميعاً، تغلب عليهم جميعاً، وهو الآن ما كان عليه دائماً، لا يظهر أي انحطاط، ولا ضعف الشيخوخة، ولا ضعف في روحه، ولا تباطؤ في طاقاته. سيداتي وسادتي، على مر القرون، فشلت الطغيانات التي حاولت تدميرنا مرة بعد مرة، وبمشيئة الله، ستستمر في الفشل. إذا استجمعنا شجاعتنا، إذا صلبنا عزمنا، سنستمر في الانتصار. كما يقول الكتاب المقدس، أبدية إسرائيل لن تترنح. والسبب بسيط. ليس لدينا خيار آخر.
