He Who Rolls a Stone, It Will Roll Back on Him … A Faith Reflection on God’s Justice and the Harvest of Human Deeds

The Holy Bible teaches us that God is love, but He is also a God of justice and holiness. Throughout life’s journey, many people believe they can hurt others, wrong them, or slander them without facing the consequences of their actions. Yet God’s Word clearly teaches that a person reaps what he sows, and that evil can never be a path to true peace or happiness. This reflection is a call to examine ourselves, choose the path of love and goodness, and remember that whatever we do to others will return to us in one way or another, because God’s justice neither fails nor disappears.
There is no doubt that human life follows one of two paths: the path of good or the path of evil, each carrying deep spiritual, human, and practical meaning. Every person, regardless of social status, education, or wealth, must choose which path to follow and accept full responsibility for that choice, remembering that no one can escape the consequences of his deeds, whether good or evil, because God’s justice is perfect and never makes mistakes.
If you are a righteous and wise person who fears God in your words and actions and believes in the Day of Judgment, then you must understand that evil brings only destruction to its owner. True wisdom is found in fearing God, controlling oneself, and avoiding injustice and harm. Every word you speak and every deed you do will leave a mark that will return to you sooner or later.
But if you harden your heart, blind your spiritual sight, kill the grace of shame within you, close your ears to the truth, and silence your conscience—which is God’s voice within you—remember that the pain you plant in the lives of others will one day knock on the door of your own life. God’s judgment may seem delayed, but it never expires and never escapes the watchful eyes of God.
The Bible confirms this truth in the Book of Proverbs: “Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone, it will roll back on him” (Proverbs 26:27).
The Apostle Paul also says: “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7).
As a Lebanese proverb says: “You will surely drink from the same cup that you made others drink from.”
How many proud and foolish people ignore this obvious truth! They plot evil, rejoice in harming others, and imagine that cruelty gives them power or prestige. Yet in the end, they reap nothing but the ruin of their own lives, the loss of inner peace, and the destruction of their souls.
In contrast, Christ calls us to a completely different path—the path of love, forgiveness, and mercy. He says: “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). A true believer does not seek revenge or return evil for evil. Instead, he leaves judgment to God, who knows the secrets of every heart and rewards each person according to his deeds.
All of us encounter people who make hurting others their goal, hatred their method, and gossip and slander their way of life. They hurt even those closest to them because they have lost the grace of conscience and exchanged mercy for hatred and love for envy.
Let us pray that God grants those who walk in the paths of evil, hatred, and blind jealousy the grace of repentance and a return to the truth before it is too late. May they come to understand that whoever digs a pit for another will fall into it himself, whoever rolls a stone against another will have it roll back upon him, and whoever gives others a cup of bitterness will one day taste its bitterness himself.
As for those who reject repentance and persist in evil and injustice, caring neither for God nor for His commandments, let them remember that divine judgment is real and that every person will one day stand before the Lord to give an account for every word, every deed, and every intention.
Let us always remember that life is governed by God’s perfect justice. What you sow today, you will reap tomorrow. What you do to others will return to you in one way or another. Therefore, as believers, let us sow love so that we may reap peace, sow mercy so that we may receive mercy, and turn away from evil so that we may walk in the light of God.
In conclusion, whoever rolls a stone to harm others will one day have that stone roll back upon him. But whoever sows goodness and love will receive God’s blessing, joy in the heart, and peace of conscience.
