يبدو أن سياسة الدولة اللبنانية تسير، من حيث الأسلوب، على خطى السياسة الإيرانية: لا قرار حاسم، مواقف مائعة، تسويف، وتقطيع للوقت، بانتظار أن تتبدّل الظروف الإقليمية والدولية.
فالرهان، على ما يبدو، هو على الانتخابات النصفية الأميركية، أو على ما قد تحمله المرحلة المتبقية من ولاية الرئيس ترامب، إضافة إلى الانتخابات الإسرائيلية… علّ نتائج هذه الاستحقاقات تغيّر موازين القوى ومسار الأحداث في المنطقة.
لكن إذا صحّ هذا الرهان، فإن لبنان يكون قد اختار الانتظار العبثي بدل المبادرة، وربط مصيره بما تقرّره صناديق الاقتراع في الخارج بدل أن يصنع قراره في الداخل.
والأخطر أن الوقت في لبنان ليس مجانياً: فكل يوم تأخير يعني مزيداً من الاهتراء السياسي، والتدهور الاقتصادي، والضيق المعيشي، فيما تبقى القضايا المصيرية معلّقة بانتظار متغيّرات قد تأتي… وقد لا تأتي.
الخلاصة:
الأوطان لا تُنقذ بالرهان على المتغيّرات الخارجية، والدول لا تُبنى على الانتظار… بل بقيادات تقرّر وتبادر، لا قيادات تنتظر من يقرّر عنها.

It appears that the Lebanese state’s policy is following—in terms of approach—the path of Iranian policy: a lack of decisive action, ambiguous stances, procrastination, and time-wasting, all while awaiting a shift in regional and international circumstances.
The bet, it seems, is placed on the US midterm elections, or on what the remainder of President Trump’s term might bring, alongside the Israeli elections—hoping that the outcomes of these events might alter the balance of power and the course of events in the region.
Yet, if this bet holds true, it means Lebanon has chosen futile waiting over taking initiative, tying its fate to the decisions of ballot boxes abroad rather than forging its own decisions at home.
More dangerously, time in Lebanon comes at a high cost: every day of delay signifies further political erosion, economic deterioration, and hardship for the people, while issues of vital importance remain in limbo, awaiting variables that may—or may not—materialize.
In short:
Nations are not saved by betting on external variables, nor are states built on waiting; rather, they are built by leaders who make decisions and take initiative—not by leaders who wait for others to decide for them.
