In both the Lebanese diaspora and our beloved homeland, many Lebanese and descendants—journalists, politicians, and human rights activists alike—are left wondering why, among the dozens of advisors selected by the Republican and Democratic American presidential front-runners, the focus has been so intensely directed at our comrade, Dr. Walid Phares, Mr. Donald Trump’s renowned advisor for national security and foreign policy.
The situation became exceedingly clear to us after conducting a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the superficial narratives, dubious motives, and fabricated style of the mean-spirited and lowly media campaigns targeting Professor Walid Phares in such a negative, slanderous, aggressive, biased, and merciless manner. These campaigns have exposed their true intentions.
There is no doubt that the writers and media outlets attacking Dr. Phares with unfair, false, fabricated, and harsh criticism are a group of losers, rotten leftists, mercenaries, mere opportunists, and bold enemies of success, freedom, democracy, and human rights.
We also discovered that in 2011, the same mercenary writers, media outlets, and politicians waged a similar merciless and aggressive campaign of hatred, lies, defamation, slander, and fabrications against Professor Phares when Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney chose him as one of his key advisors for national security and foreign policy.
It comes as no surprise that the current ugly and low-class campaign against Phares is a carbon copy of the 2011 campaign waged by the same writers and media outlets.
Why is Dr. Phares the target of such lies, fabrications, and hatred? We firmly believe it is because:
He is an extraordinary global expert on terrorism, jihad, and the Middle East, and the author of many widely acclaimed and valuable books on these critical issues.
He regularly provides courageous, knowledgeable, and insightful analysis on these matters on Fox News and other media outlets.
He advises parliamentarians in the USA, as well as in numerous European and Arab countries, on these issues as a highly respected and qualified expert.
He is unwavering in his pursuit of truth regarding jihad, terrorism, and terrorists, and he boldly speaks out for the truth and nothing but the truth.
His intellectual stances on democracy, human rights, coexistence, freedom, and countering radicalization are deeply rooted and uncompromising.
He is one of the very few global experts on terrorism, jihad, and religion capable of academically bridging the gap between Western and Middle Eastern cultures, ideologies, religions, and histories, drawing from his rich Lebanese background and field experience.
In summary, success, honesty, and a commitment to truth always come at a high price. Dr. Phares has been a prophetic voice, whose insights have proven accurate and true in the lead-up to the Arab Spring and in the ongoing war against terrorism.
