Israeli troops recently detained an individual in Syria it said was an Iranian operative who had gathered intelligence on Israeli troops in the border area, the Israeli military said on Sunday. The military named the person as Ali Soleiman al-Assi, a Syrian citizen from the area of Saida in southern Syria. It said the operation took place in recent months but gave no exact date. “The operation by Israel Defense Forces troops to detain al-Assi prevented a future attack and led to the exposure of the operational methods of Iranian terror networks located near the Golan Heights,” the military said. It said he had been under military surveillance for many months. Body camera footage of the raid released by the army showed soldiers seizing a man in a white tank top inside a building. The man was brought to Israel for interrogation, the military said.

BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces on Sunday took statements from eyewitnesses after Israeli commandos abducted a man said to be a senior Hezbollah naval operative.
In one of the most dramatic raids of the current conflict, Imad Amhaz was taken from a chalet he rented with his family in the coastal town of Batroun, northern Lebanon, by Israeli special forces who escaped by speedboat in the early hours of Friday. Amhaz’s wife and a neighbor were among those interviewed by Lebanese security forces. The abduction was kept secret in Lebanon until leaked footage of the operation appeared showing about 20 Israeli soldiers, fully equipped, leading Amhaz away. Israel said that the raid, which took place about 40 km north of Beirut, lasted only a few minutes. However, Lebanon denies Amhaz has links with Hezbollah, and has said it will file an urgent complaint with the UN Security Council. Ali Hamieh, caretaker minister of public works and transport, on Sunday described the Batroun raid as “a blatant violation of Lebanese sovereignty.”He said the government is still waiting on a detailed report into the incident, and added that caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati is “making contacts to neutralize the land and sea crossings from Israeli attacks.” In a social media post and interviews with local television, Amhaz’s father, Fadel, called on the Lebanese government, navy, and UNIFIL forces to pursue his son’s case and work to have him released. He said that his son is a civilian boat captain and had been studying in Batroun at the Marsati Institute for Marine Sciences, where he had undertaken courses since 2013. “Imad usually works on civilian ships that transport either livestock or cars. He spends most of his time at sea. He has no connection to parties and does not interfere in politics,” his father said. He called on the International Red Cross and UNIFIL forces to “communicate with the kidnappers to return my son to his family safely.”Israeli Army Radio on Sunday said the naval commando operation in Batroun resulted in “the arrest of a Hezbollah leader.”According to the military outlet, the operation had been planned for a long time, with Israeli intelligence services “waiting for an opportunity that would allow a high degree of certainty for its success.” The radio reported that “the investigators, who speak Arabic, conducted a preliminary interrogation of the Hezbollah member who was arrested to confirm that he was the person targeted, he is a key member of Hezbollah and a figure fully involved in the party’s activities, and not an innocent Lebanese citizen as some parties in Lebanon tried to portray him.”
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continued on Sunday in southern Lebanon and the Baalbek region. A raid on a house in the town of Joya killed two people and injured several others. Raids also targeted towns in the Tyre, Nabatieh, Iqlim Al-Tuffah, Zahrani, and Sidon districts. Three people were killed and nine injured in a raid on the town of Harat Saida, according to the Ministry of Health. The Israeli army evacuated areas near the border town of Khiyam, according to Hezbollah, but retreated “after receiving severe blows from the party’s fighters.”The Israeli army said that it had killed Farouk Amin Al-Asi, a Hezbollah company commander in Khiyam, while Youssef Ahmed Noun, a platoon commander in the Radwan Force in the Khiyam area, was also targeted. A UNIFIL force and paramedics on Saturday reached Wata Al-Khiam, where dozens of civilians were believed to be sheltering in a house following clashes more than a week ago. No security for Hezbollah in Lebanon

The political echelon’s major test lies in maintaining core principles for the aftermath: complete control of southern Lebanon by the Lebanese army, safeguarding Israel’s right to act if terrorist elements enter the border vicinity and ensuring Israel’s capability to prevent Hezbollah’s smuggling and rearmament even deep within Lebanon or Syria. Israel stands at a crossroads: On one hand, it would struggle to manage a war of attrition; on the other, it is compelled to act now to restore security for the northern residents and bring them back to their communities. Simultaneously, the IDF and the defense establishment must work to rehabilitate relations with numerous countries, especially in Europe. Increasing reports of arms and technology embargoes imposed by various nations and defense industries are impacting Israel. At least one national security project has been stalled for weeks due to this embargo.
Israel must now concentrate its efforts on leveraging all fronts in Lebanon to compel Hezbollah and the Lebanese government to accept its terms, aiming to conclude the northern conflict.

The IDF considers Imad Amhaz to be a “significant source of knowledge” in the terror group’s naval force.
The Israel Defense Forces’ elite Shayetet 13 naval commando unit on Friday night captured a senior Hezbollah figure in Northern Lebanon. The IDF confirmed the operation in Batroun, south of Tripoli, on Saturday. The terrorist, identified as Imad Amhaz, is considered to be a “significant source of knowledge” in the terror group’s naval force, according to the Israeli military. Amhaz is being interrogated by the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504, which specializes in HUMINT, or human intelligence. According to Lebanese reports, a 20-man team disguised as Lebanese security forces, including two soldiers in civilian clothes, arrived by sea on speedboats and raided a chalet on the coast, capturing Amhaz before leaving on the speedboats. The entire raid took only four minutes.
Hezbollah commanders killed
The IDF announced on Sunday morning that the commander of Hezbollah’s terror forces in the Khiam area, located in the Nabatieh Governorate of Southern Lebanon, had been killed in an Israeli drone strike. Farouk Amin Alasi led many anti-tank missile and rocket attacks on Israeli communities in the Galilee Panhandle, especially Metula, according to the army. Additionally, the IDF eliminated Yousef Ahmad Nun, a Radwan Force company commander in the Khiam area who was responsible for rocket and anti-tank missile attacks on Israeli communities in the Galilee area and IDF troops operating in Southern Lebanon. Hezbollah terrorist Jaafar Khader Faour was killed in the area of Jouaiyya in Southern Lebanon, the IDF said on Saturday. Faour, the commander of Hezbollah’s Nasser Unit’s missile and drone arrays, “was responsible for terror attacks carried out from eastern Lebanon, from which the first rocket launches toward Israeli territory were fired on October 8th, under his command,” the IDF said, adding that he planned many terrorist attacks against Israel and IDF soldiers. “As the commander of the Nasser Unit’s missiles and rockets array, Faour was responsible for multiple rocket attacks from his area toward the Golan, including the attack that resulted in the deaths of the Israeli civilians from Kibbutz Ortal, the attack on Majdal Shams, which killed 12 children and teenagers and injured many others, and the rocket attack on Metula last Thursday, which resulted in the deaths of 5 civilians,” the IDF stated.

Some 2,000 Hezbollah terrorists have been killed by troops and in airstrikes since the start of Israel’s ground operation in Southern Lebanon on Oct. 1, according to IDF estimates.
Since Hezbollah began its near-daily attacks on Israel on Oct. 8, 2023, a day after Hamas led a massacre of 1,200 people, nearly 3,000 Hezbollah members have been killed, according to Israeli military assessments.
100 projectiles fired into Israel on Saturday
Hezbollah terrorists launched 100 projectiles (rockets, missiles and drones) from Lebanon into Israeli territory on Saturday, according to the IDF. Sirens continued to sound on Sunday morning in the north and down into central Israel, with residents in the Menashe and Carmel areas running to bomb shelters, including Talmei Elazar east of Hadera. Alerts were also heard in the Galilee and Golan Heights during the morning hours. The IDF said two projectiles crossed into Israel from Lebanon following the sirens that sounded in the areas of Menashe and Carmel. The IAF shot down one projectile and the other fell in an open area. Another 10 projectiles were identified crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory after alarms were heard in the Western Galilee area, with some of the projectiles intercepted and the rest falling in open areas. Seven people were killed and one person was seriously wounded on Thursday in two separate Hezbollah rocket attacks on Israel’s north.
