Christian Knesset candidate Capt. (res.) Shadi Halul: Arab parties do not represent me
By ARIEL BEN SOLOMON/02/01/2015

“The Arab parties do not represent me, they do not represent any Christian citizen,” says Capt.(res.) Shadi Halul, who is placed in the unrealistic 15th spot in party’s list. Shadi Halul An Israeli Christian, Capt. (res.) Shadi Halul, who is placed in the unrealistic 15th spot in Yisrael Beytenu’s list for the upcoming elections, told an Israeli-Arab publication that Arab parties do not represent him. “The Arab parties do not represent me, they do not represent any Christian citizen,” Halul, the Christian IDF Officers Forum leader, told the Panet website on Saturday.

Halul and his wife, from Gush Halav in the Galilee, made news back in October when they changed their child’s registry in the Interior Ministry from Arab to Christian Aramean. They took advantage of a legal change made by former interior minister Gideon Sa’ar in September when he determined that the population registry would recognize a separate Aramean identity for Arab Christians.

“My two-year-old son made history and Gideon Sa’ar made history and the Jewish people finally did justice with other nations in this region. We have been waiting for justice for thousands of years,” Halul said at the time, as reported by The Jerusalem Post’s sister publication Maariv Hashavua.

Halul, who served as a paratrooper, founded the Aramaic Christian Association in Israel seven years ago with a goal of achieving the recognition of the Aramean people, with their own nationality, language, and customs. Through this organization he promoted the recruitment of Arameans and Christians into the IDF.
