التصريح الذي أدلت به المندوبةالأميريكية اورتاغوس مساء يوم أمس من قصر بعبدا، وضع الأصبع على جرح المأساة اللبنانية، وعبّر عن رأي الأغلبية الساحقة من الشعب اللبناني.
غير أن البيان الرئاسي الذي صدر في أعقابه كان صادماً ومستهجناً ومخيّباً للآمال.
المؤلم في الأمر ان الدولة اللبنانية باتت تشبه مريضاً على فراش الموت، جاءَه أشهر الأطباء، ولكنه يرفض العلاج ويصر على الإنتحار.
والمؤلم أكثر، ان ترى الإدارة الأميريكية وقد أصبحت أشد حرصاً على مصلحة لبنان من حكامه…
وهنا تكمن المأساة.

The statement made by Deputy U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Morgan Ortagus from Baabda Palace yesterday evening struck at the heart of Lebanon’s ongoing tragedy, accurately reflecting the sentiments of the overwhelming majority of the Lebanese people.
However, the presidential response that followed was nothing short of shocking, disgraceful, and utterly disappointing. Instead of acknowledging the bitter truth, Lebanon’s so-called leadership chose to bury its head deeper in the sand.
The most tragic reality is that the Lebanese state now resembles a terminally ill patient, visited by the world’s best doctors, yet stubbornly refusing treatment—insisting instead on self-destruction.
Even more painful is the fact that the American administration appears to care more about Lebanon’s future than its own corrupt rulers do. And therein lies the real catastrophe. (Free translation from Arabic & title by: Elias Bejjani)
