The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, signed a degree to fire MP Alain Aoun from the FPM movement, based on two recommendations issued by the movement’s Council of Elders, according to a statement issued by the movement’s Central Committee for Media and Communication.
Alain Aoun is the nephew of General Michel Aoun and Bassil’s competitor for the leadership of the “movement” in 2014. He ended a journey of more than 35 years, behind the “uncle-general,” with a decision prepared for him and signed by Bassil. Note that Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elias Bou Saab took the same path, months ago. The Central Committee for Media and Communication of the Free Patriotic Movement issued the following statement:
“Based on two recommendations issued by the Council of Elders of the Movement headed by His Excellency President General Michel Aoun, the first dated 4/18/2024, and the second dated 5/13/2024, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, signed a decision to dismiss MP Alain Aoun from the “Free Patriotic Movement.”
Accordingly, the Free Patriotic Movement announces the following:
1 – The dismissal decision was issued based on two recommendations from the Council of Elders, after MP Alain Aoun failed to appear before the Council of Elders headed by President Aoun several times and insisted on his position, refusing to investigate the partisan violations he committed.
2 – MP Alain Aoun violated the internal regulations of the movement several times, as well as the movement’s decisions and directives, on the political, organizational, and media levels, thwarting all attempts to convince him to back down from committing violations, including the attempt of the founding president, His Excellency President Aoun, the head of the movement, Gebran Bassil, and a large number of comrades in the movement.
