Air raid sirens sounded in the Golan Heights and upper Galilee, warning residents of potential rocket strikes.
In a major flare up on Israel’s northern border, Israel carried out a large-scale attack against Syrian air defenses and Iranian targets in the war-torn country after an Israeli F-16 crashed during operations to strike Iranian targets in Syria early Saturday morning.
The operation, which was carried out by eight Israeli jets, struck 12 targets in Syria including thee Syrians SA5 and SA17 air defense batteries and four Iranian targets near the town of Kiswah, which is home to Syria’s 1st armored division and part of the Islamic Republic’s buildup in Syria.
The Israeli attack was met with anti-aircraft fire, triggering air raid sirens in the Golan Heights and upper Galilee, warning residents of potential rocket strikes. Below is a map of the locations where air raid sirens were triggered.
According to IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis, several missiles hit open areas in northern Israel.
“Iran and Syria are playing with fire,” he said. “The IDF acts with determination against the attempt of the Iranian-Syrian attack and the violation of Israeli sovereignty. The IDF is prepared for a variety of scenarios and will continue to act as necessary.”
Early on Saturday morning an Iranian drone, which was launched from a Syrian base in the Homs desert, was identified approaching Israeli airspace by the IDF around 4 am, setting off alarms across the Golan Heights and the Jordan Valley. Upon entering Israel it was intercepted by an Israeli Air Force Apache helicopter near the town of Beit She’an.
“The IDF will continue to operate against attempts to infiltrate Israeli airspace and will act with determination to prevent any violations of Israel’s sovereignty,” read a statement by the IDF’s Spokesperson’s Unit.
“Iran is dragging the region into an adventure and will pay the price for it.”
In response, Israeli aircraft targeted the drone’s launch site deep inside Syrian territory in a “complicated surgical strike,” in which heavy anti-aircraft missile fire was launched by the Syrians against the Israeli jets.
“During the Air Force operation, anti-aircraft missiles were fired at the aircraft and the pilots of one of the planes ejected themselves. The pilots fell inside Israel and were evacuated to the hospital,” the army said.
The army later cleared for release that one of the pilots was severely wounded while the other one was slightly injured.
The IDF could not confirm whether the jet, which crashed in Beit Netofa Valley in the Lower Galilee, was hit by the anti-aircraft missiles or if it crashed for other reasons.
An unidentified Syrian military source was cited as saying that the Syrians hit more than one Israeli plane. However, the IDF denied this report and confirmed that only one aircraft was damaged.
It was the first time that Israel lost an aircraft in a combat situation since 2006, when an Israeli Yasour (Sikorsky CH-53) helicopter was shot down over Lebanon, killing the entire crew, including the first female flight mechanic in Israel’s heavy transport helicopter fleet.
Israel’s top military brass and intelligence services are currently holding high-level consultations at headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the security cabinet were briefed on the situation, but so far no special meetings have been scheduled.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman also met with IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and other senior members of the defense establishment to discuss the security situation in the north.
Tensions on Israel’s northern border have been rising in recent months as Israel fears that Iran is entrenching itself deeper into war-torn Syria with its presence on Israel’s borders growing in strength. The smuggling of sophisticated weaponry and the building of a precision missile factory in Lebanon for Hezbollah has also been a growing concern for Jerusalem.
On Thursday, regime forces fired at an IDF drone with shrapnel hitting a home in the Druse village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights.
Earlier in the week, Israel was reported to have struck an Iranian base west of the capital of Damascus. Syria’s official news agency SANA said Israeli fighter jets flying in Lebanese airspace fired a number of missiles towards the area of Jamraya research center, targeting an Iranian base. While a number of missiles did hit their intended targets, several others were intercepted by th Syrian air defenses, the report said.
Israel rarely comments on foreign reports of military activity in Syria but has publicly admitted to having struck over 100 Hezbollah convoys and other targets in Syria, with Netanyahu saying that strikes will continue when “we have information and operational feasibility.”
Israel’s Security Cabinet went to the Mt. Avital outlook on the Golan Heights on Tuesday and received a briefing from Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, OC Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoel Strick and other senior officers.
Following the briefings, Netanyahu said that while Israel wants peace, it is “prepared for any scenario, and I suggest that no one test us.”
Israeli Army: This Is a Serious Iranian Attack on Our Territory
Haaretz/February 10/18/Israeli army spokesman Brigadier General Ronen Manelis said Saturday morning that Iran has carried out “a dangerous attack on Israeli territory” after an Iranian drone was shot down over Israeli territory. According to Manelis, Israel struck deep in Syrian territory, targeting the trailer from which the drone was launched. According to the Israeli army, Syrian anti-aircraft missiles targeted an Israeli F-16, prompting the pilots to eject. The plane went down in northern Israel. The two pilots were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Syrian anti-aircraft fire triggered rocket sirens in northern Israel, first in the northern Israeli town of Beit She’an and later in the surrounding areas and Golan Heights. “As part of the country’s defenses, sirens were activated but there was no danger for the residents of Beit She’an,” Manelis said. The Syrian army and rebels in the Syrian Golan Heights are currently exchanging heavy fire.

نفذت إسرائيل ضربات جوية كثيفة على سوريا اليوم السبت، مشيرةً الى انها استهدفت دفاعات جوية سورية وأهدافاً إيرانية، بينما اعلن الجيش السوري انه أصاب مقاتلة “إف 16” إسرائيلية سقطت في شمال إسرائيل، في تصعيد كبير للتوتر بين الجانبَيْن.
واوضح الجيش الإسرائيلي، ان التقييم الأولي يُشير إلى أن المقاتلة سقطت بنيران سورية، لكن ذلك لم يتأكد بعد. وتحدث الإعلام الرسمي السوري عن هجومَيْن إسرائيليَّيْن منفصلين.
وفي الهجوم الأول، أفاد مصدر عسكري بأن الدفاعات الجوية السورية فتحت النار رداً على هجوم إسرائيلي على قاعدة عسكرية، واستهدفت “أكثر من طائرة”.
وفي وقت لاحق، أعلن الإعلام الرسمي السوري ان الدفاعات الجوية ردت على هجوم إسرائيلي جديد وأحبطت هجمات على مواقع عسكرية في جنوب سوريا.
من جهته، قال المتحدث باسم الجيش الإسرائيلي جوناثان كونريكوس إن عدداً كبيراً من الطائرات الحربية الإسرائيلية المشاركة في المهمة تعرّضت لنيران سورية كثيفة مضادة للطائرات، لافتاً الى ان مقاتلة إسرائيلية واحدة فقط تعرّضت للضرر.
بدوره، قال القائد السابق في القوات الجوية الإسرائيلية ديفيد إيفري لوكالة “رويترز”، إنه يعتقد أن تلك هي أول مرة يتم فيها إسقاط مقاتلة إسرائيلية من طراز “إف 16” منذ أن بدأت إسرائيل استخدامها في الثمانينات.
وكشف “المرصد السوري لحقوق الإنسان”، ان إسرائيل استهدفت مناطق في ريف جنوب غرب دمشق، وبالقرب من الحدود السورية – اللبنانية، غرب دمشق، وفي ريف حمص الشرقي لساعات عدة منذ الفجر.
وأضاف أن مجموعة أخرى من الضربات استهدفت جنوب غرب دمشق، بينما استهدفت ضربات أخرى المنطقة المحيطة بالطريق السريع الذي يربط بين دمشق وبيروت بالقرب من الحدود مع لبنان.
وجرى تعليق الرحلات إلى مطار إسرائيل الرئيسي قرب تل أبيب لنحو 15 دقيقة، بينما توقف إقلاع الطائرات لنحو 20 دقيقة صباح اليوم السبت.
وقال المتحدث باسم هيئة مطارات إسرائيل عوفر ليفلر: “يعمل مطار بن غوريون بشكل طبيعي الآن”. وعرض الموقع الإلكتروني للمطار بثاً مباشراً لمواعيد وصول وإقلاع الطائرات.
الجيش الاسرائيلي: ما حصل أقل من حرب واكثر من مواجهة

اعتبر الجيش الإسرائيلي أن “سوريا وإيران تلعبان بالنار ووجهتنا ليست نحو التصعيد وما حدث حتى الآن هو أقل من حرب وأكثر من مواجهة”. ولفت الناطق باسم الجيش الاسرائيلي الى ان العملية انتهت بالنسبة لاسرائيل.
غارات انتقامية عنيفة بعد إسقاط الطائرة الإسرائيلية

أعلن الجيش الإسرائيلي أنه شن هجمات جوية ضد 12 موقعا عسكريا في سوريا في أعقاب خرق طائرة مسيرة إيرانية الحدود الإسرائيلية من سوريا, والهجمات طالت منصات للدفاع الجوي السوري و4 أهداف تابعة لإيران.
وصرّح الجيش الإسرائيلي في بيان، اليوم السبت، بأن سلاح الجو الإسرائيلي شن هجمات واسعة النطاق في سوريا، استهدفت 12 موقعا عسكريا سوريا وإيرانيا بينها 3 منصات للدفاع الجوي السوري، و4 أهداف تابعة لإيران وذلك في أعقاب التصعيد الأمني الذي شهدته الحدود بعد اختراق طائرة مسيرة إيرانية الحدود الإسرائيلية.
وأضاف بيان الجيش الإسرائيلي أن المقاتلات الإسرائيلية التي نشطت في سوريا تعرضت لصواريخ مضادة للطائرات طوال عملية القصف، مؤكدا أن “الجيش سيواصل العمل بحزم ضد الاعتداء الإيراني – السوري على سيادته”. وتمت العملية بمصادقة رئيس الحكومة، بنيامين نتنياهو، بعد مشاورات مع أعضاء المجلس الوزاري المصغر.
وكانت الحدود الإسرائيلية – السورية قد شهدت صباح اليوم تصعيدا حربيا خطيرا بين إسرائيل وإيران تمثل بإسقاط طائرة من دون طيار إيرانية اخترقت الحدود الإسرائيلية من سوريا بعد رصدها على يد منظومات الدفاع الإسرائيلية، وبرد إسرائيلي عنيف بإغارة أهداف إيرانية في سوريا، بما في ذلك المنصة التي أطلقت الطائرة المسيرة.
وبعدها أفاد الجيش الإسرائيلي بسقوط مقاتلة إف16 إسرائيلية داخل الأراضي الإسرائيلية ولم يؤكد الجيش سبب سقوط الطائرة، إلا أنه أكد إخلاء طيارين إثنين الطائرة وإصابة أحدهما بجروح بالغة.
وجاء في بيان نشره الجيش الإسرائيلي صباح اليوم أن “مروحية حربية إسرائيلية تعرضت لطائرة دون طيار إيرانية أطلقت من سوريا واخترقت الأراضي الإسرائيلية بعد رصدها” و “ردًا على ذلك قام جيش الدفاع بالإغارة على أهداف إيرانية في سوريا”.
وعن سقوط مقاتلة إف16 إسرائيلية قال الجيش “خلال الغارات في الأراضي السورية تم إخلاء مقاتلة f16 من قبل طيارين اثنين داخل الأراضي الإسرائيلية”.
